Fidelity Active Trader Pro Overview

In order to appeal to experienced traders, Fidelity offers an advanced desktop platform called Active Trader Pro. It does have several nice features. Let’s check them out in this Active Trader Pro Review and see how the software compares to the platforms of Fidelity’s rivals.

Fidelity Active Trader Pro Cost

Fidelity requires 36 trades in a consecutive 12-month period to use Active Trader Pro. The broker recently started allowing its customers to try out the program on a trial basis if they don’t meet this requirement. There is no other requirement or cost for Active Trader Pro platform.

The software can be downloaded from the Fidelity website, with or without logging in. If you don’t log in, you must provide your name, address, and phone number. The demo platform does not work on Macs, although the regular version does. However, many users have reported problems with the software on Apple machines.

Setting Up the Program

After downloading the .exe file from Fidelity’s website, you can begin installing the software by double-clicking the file. It will take a few minutes to install. When you open the program for the first time, it will lead you step-by-step through a few customization features. Here, you can select one of three colors for Active Trader Pro: white, blue, or black. There are also several pre-defined layouts, including market monitor, technical trends, portfolio monitor, option trader, and quick trade.

As the names imply, the different layouts emphasize different trading needs. The quick trade system, for example, produces multiple trading tickets instead of just one, along with an order history window. Portfolio monitor emphasizes account information. It’s easy to switch between these designs later by clicking on ‘Layouts’ in the top menu and selecting the one you want from the drop-down list. Custom layouts can also be created.

First Impression

Using the software for the first time isn’t that difficult. It’s user friendly, and easy to find your way around. The large window contains smaller windows devoted to different tasks, such as account positions or working orders. It’s simple to move these windows around, or delete them. One window can also be expanded to fill the entire monitor.

Top Menu

A top row of menu items displays general features. Items in text have drop-down menus, while items with only an icon produce a small window when clicked. For example, clicking on the trade icon produces a small trading ticket. Clicking on ‘Options’ creates a drop-down menu with a variety of choices, including a probability calculator, option statistics, and strategy ideas.

At the very top is a selection of help, settings options, and a customer service contact. The help section has information on a wide variety of topics. These include managing closed positions, using option chains, and keyboard commands.
